Policy & representation

PSMA is the industry’s counterpart to federal and provincial government on cane pricing, support prices, distribution controls and the ordinances that regulate manufacture and trade — from the Sugarcane Act of 1934 onward.

Statistics & forecasting

The association maintains production, sale and stock data for the whole industry and forecasts yearly production and consumption. The information is studied at both the domestic and international level.

Research & development

Long-term targets include improving sugarcane yield and recovery, raising irrigation efficiency and adopting new technologies in the farming system. PSMA also presses the case for a national sugarcane breeding institution.

Member services

A central secretariat in Islamabad and zonal secretariats in the north and south serve the member mills directly — membership records, the telephone directory, circulars, and the annual general meeting at which office bearers are elected.
